Project results: The necessity of the project is justified by General Social Inclusion Memorandum of Latvia, in which it is noted that reduction of poverty and social exclusion is one of the main long-term goals in Latvian social policy. With the help of this project Union’s intention was to create healthy and family development friendly social and economic environment, with special focus on families with children, in order to remove the chance of them finding themselves in crisis.
Objective of the project – to carry out complex support events in order to decrease social exclusion of youth and families with children, promoting their integration in society and stimulating the growth of their well-being, has been mainly successful. By participating in the project 62 parents, 24 union members, 82 children and 104 teenagers had an opportunity to acquire useful knowledge, hence more successfully integrating themselves in a modern society. During the project 14 children have attended developing classes with elements of Montessori pedagogy, total of 30 hours; 41 children have attended developing classes with elements of canis-therapy, total of 32 hours; 12 children have mastered weaving, altogether 37 hours; 16 children have attended pottery workshops, altogether 12 hours; 40 children have participated in day camp „Little explorers”, altogether 80 hours; 18 parents have received certificates of completion of the training course „Child’s emotional upbringing”, total of 50 hours; 31 parents have attended classes of physical therapy; total of 20 hours; 37 parents have attended classes of speech therapy, total of 12 hours; 28 parents have attended classes of pediatrics, total of 20 hours; 31 teenagers have attended a support group led by the governor of Livani parish, total of 36 hours; 14 teenagers have attended classes with the focus on choosing the right career path led by a psychologist and a social worker, total of 36 hours; 30 teenagers have participated in classes led by a lecturer/moderator (meetings with businessmen, talent and game evenings etc.), total of 72 hours; 22 teenagers have attended art therapy classes, total of 30 hours; 8 teenagers have mastered weaving, total of 74 hours; 17 teenagers have attended pottery workshops, total of 48 hours; 16 teenagers have received certificates of completion of the 80 hour CorelDraw software course; there has been 1 informative seminar about the launch of the project, which was attended by 36 participants; there has been 1 closing event, which was attended by 58 participants; 1 union website has been created which includes 30 publications about the progress of the project; 1 member of the union has been trained in the training course „Child’s emotional upbringing” and „Without corporal punishments”; 1 model of leaflets has been created, 300 leaflets have been printed out; 3 card models have been created, 200 cards have been printed out, 1 teenage volunteer has been attracted to the project; 1 experience exchange trip has been organized in which 12 union members have participated. Due to the project, there has been an increase in the number of innovative social services and events, which until now were not available in Preili and Riebini municipalities. The project has also promoted the development of active civil participation – during the project Union accepted 11 new Union Members and 2 teenagers worked as volunteers. The most successful in terms of achieving the expected results of the project was the group of families with children; even though there was a high number of teenage participation, planned results were only partially achieved. In most cases activities offered through the project received good feedback and left positive impact on targeted groups: one of the best examples is a young woman from a large family, she achieved such a high level of skill, that now she is able to earn extra income, also after participating in creative workshops many children have applied to Art school in order to further improve their artistic skills; in many families recycling has become a part of daily life, due to children who participated in educational environment camp; many parents, who joined parent group meetings, stated that it helped them to deal with certain situation in their families and they acquired better understanding about children and their emotions in different situations.
It has been planned that the Union will be able to continue offering majority of activities, hence providing the planned long-term effects of the project. In order to achieve this plan, during the project Union has trained a member in the courses “Child’s emotional upbringing” and „Without corporal punishment!” so that it would be possible to organize support groups to parents about these issues. Also during the project Union has actively participated in 7 other project competitions, of which 3 have been accepted with the total sum of EUR 3678,86. All of those projects were targeted towards improvement in the number and consistency of activities of this exiting project.
