The Society deals with accessibility issues to children’s palliative care services and actively talks to politicians, different institutions in creating a common understanding of children’s palliative care. Within this project Society wants to improve its functioning.
Project aims to strengthen civil society in improvement of palliative care services availability in Latvia by promoting public involvement in Society’s actions.
The project plans to create Society’s parents initiative group,organize the World Palliative care Day’s celebration in Latvia, organize charity events and raise money to improve the quality of life of incurably ill children, become a member of Latvian Civic Alliance and International Children’s Palliative Care Network, develop a voluntary work program and train volunteers, inform media about main project activities.
Project target group: families with incurably ill children, local residents and NGO members.

Project results: The aim of the activity programme of the Children’s Palliative Care Society (the Society) was to strengthen civic society through ensuring availability of the palliative care service in Latvia by promoting and broadening civic participation in the Society’s activities.

The target groups of the programme were the NVO members, including 12 members of the 15 volunteers. As well as residents - 45 students (RSU), 250 students, 104 parents of children who receive palliative care services of the grieving process, 199 families who receive child palliative care services.

The following results have been achieved:
Society’s Parental initiative group of 13 people has been created and is operating. Representatives of the group are actively involving in the decision-making processes, regularly meeting state and local municipality institution representatives, improving communication among other parents and inviting them to take part in joined activities in the area of palliative care.
During the project implementation the World’s palliative care day (a Hopice day) is being organised in Latvia every year. The Society will continue organising this day and use it to share information about children’s palliative care.
Informative materials – booklets – are prepared in the Latvian, Russian and English languages. These materials will inform those interested about the Society’s activities, Parental initiative group’s activities, volunteers work in children’s palliative care, invite general public to take part in the Society’s activities.
The Society as legal entity becomes a member of the Latvian Civic Alliance and the International Children’s Palliative Care Network. The Society will actively involve in solving issues topical for NGOs. By becoming ICPCN member the Society will promote awareness and co-operation with NGOs from other states.
Programme of voluntary work in children’s palliative care was developed, trainings for volunteers organised, volunteers involved in the activities of the Society.
Charity events were organised; collected money used to improve quality of life of incurably ill children.

Operating results of the program will contribute to strengthening the activities of the Association, while ensuring the development of children's palliative care, as well as contribute to the situation, that from now on no obstacles are created for future generations of children's palliative care services to meet the needs. Both parents' initiative group and its operational organization and developed volunteer program and volunteer involvement in the work of the Association and the development of informative materials and Associations website development and its regular updating, will greatly contribute to society in the work of the Association and the Association will promote international recognition. All activities within the program of the project results and prepare information materials will be available to anyone interested in the Society, as well as publicly available on the Association website www.palliative.lv, thus enabling other organizations to meet and use their work to prepare the documents the entire project duration, and at least two years after project completion report has been approved.
