Although the Latvian Red Cross(LRC) is a national level organization with a wide network of committees, previous activity in the field of human rights, advocacy and anti-discrimination has been quite episodic.
The Project aims to ensure regular operation of the LRC in the fields of human rights and anti-discrimination. To achieve the project's aim LRC will provide support to the Latvian inhabitants in the field of human rights, including social and health promoting activities and anti-discrimination. It will involve volunteers and attract new members, train LRC members and LRC Youth representatives, develop LRC action strategy, carry out campaigns at national and regional level, engage itself in consultations/co-operation process with the state and local government institutions in order to ensure advocacy and observance of human rights.
Main project target groups are NGO members and local residents.

Project results: The aim of the project was to strengthen the LatRC operations for regular activities of the LatRC in the areas of human rights, protection of interests and discrimination minimisation, and it has been fully attained. Implementation of the project has provided the opportunity to recognise problems existing in the areas of human rights, protection of interests and discrimination minimisation, and eventual activities that the LatRC may implement to improve the situation.The project has promoted the development of active civil participation by involving the residents of Latvia, especially representatives of the most vulnerable groups and residents of rural regions, in the volunteer work, creative and educational activities. Within the project activities, the project participants had the opportunity to improve their knowledge, develop cooperation, communication and organisational skills, and to recognise themselves as a resource to promote public awareness of the issues of human rights, protection of interests and discrimination minimisation.
Results of the project:
1. One operational strategy of the LatRC in the areas of human rights, protection of interests and discrimination minimisation developed.
2. At least 350 consultations provided to the target group, the residents throughout the territory of Latvia.
3. 25 informative events of the project held.
4. At least 608 young people and 58 representatives of NGOs, associations or institutions were educated on human rights and civil participation.
5. 3 discussions were organised on the possibilities for and gains from the cooperation between generations, which were attended by 99 persons.
6. There were six campaigns implemented on the national and regional level in the areas of human rights, protection of interests and discrimination minimisation by involving local people, businessmen and other supporters to promote awareness of the LatRC and to attract additional funding possibilities.
7. The external communication strategy of the LatRC has been developed.
8. The LatRC website www.redcross.lv has been improved, which has facilitated a substantial increase of visits and the availability of quality and modern information to the public.
9. The number of LatRC members has increased by 453 and the number of volunteers has increased by 361 persons; however, in general, after the introduction of the volunteer and member database in the organisation, the number of members and volunteers has decreased because the registration and deletion procedure has been put in order.
10. 59 LatRC and committee members and employees were trained in the areas of human rights, protection of interests and discrimination minimisation.
11. 67 representatives from the LatRC youth sections were trained in the areas of human rights, protection of interests and discrimination minimisation.
12. The International Youth Integration Forum was organised and it was attended by participants from both Latvian municipalities and Norway, Estonia, Germany, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, the total attendance was 49 young people.
13. The information material about the volunteer work “Volunteer work with asylum seekers and refugees in Latvia” has been developed.
