Description
The aim of the Project is to decrease social inequality and spread of infectious diseases by implementing innovative social service for women sex workers in Riga.
The service will support life skills learning and intersectoral, multisectoral cooperation.
50 women- sex workers will receive individually tailored care which will include social care, health prevention and medical care (consultations, diagnostic) to restrict sexual transmission of infections and to expand possibilities for treatment.
Professionals working in case management team will have regular supervision.
Within the course of the Project interests of women sex workers will be advocated within the municipality and ministries.
The training seminar will be organized for social workers of all Riga municipality suburbs, for representatives from Riga municipality, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Welfare.
The final event of the Project will be organized.
Project results: The aim of the Project was to decrease social inequality and spread of infectious diseases by implementing innovative social service for women sex workers in Riga.
The target groups of the project were Social exclusion and poverty at risk population, including: 71 woman sex workers. As well as NVO’s representing the above groups of people's rights and interests, including: 8 members, 18 employees, 9 volunteers.
The following results have been achieved:
•With individually tailored care method, 71 women involved(initially planned 50) in prostitution were given social help, as well as publicē health promoting services and medical treatment(consultations and examinations). This reduced the further development of infections and helped in finding a solution in cases when a disease was diagnosed. The project’s developers had to search for new and creative methods in finding their way towards the target group.
•The other impact of project was well trained, coordinated case management team which developed strategy and guidelines how to deal with very complicated cases. The eksperts involved in this Project had regular meetings led by psychologist in the supervision group, which helped in team building and solvning the most complicated cases of their clients. All the information about the services provided by the project was published in the escort web pages, also 140 text messages were sent out to mobile phones.
•An training seminar was held in Riga for all social workers of the suburbs of Riga, for the workers of municipality of Riga and for the representatives of the Ministries of Welfare, Health, Interior and Justice. The Project’s cermony was held The socienty was informed about the Project and it’s achievments through the mass media.
The need of a Project developed when analysing spread of infection disases amond different risk groups where sex workers is one of the higest risk group. The sustainability of the Project results depend on political will oof the ministry of Health and Ministry of Welfare and strategy of Riga municipality welfare department which is not planning to support any new initiatives whitin the nearest future.
