Main issue: Diaspora children in Latvia lack basic knowledge of Latvian history, culture, national holidays as well as their Latvian language knowledge is very low.
Main aim: Promotion of interculturla skills and improvement of understanding about national identity issues with educational activities that eliminates discrimination and develops tolerance for Latgale region home-care institution children.
Target audience: Children from out of family care institutions.
Place of realisation: Latvia, Russian Federation and Belarus.
Main activities:
Main activities are related to the integration of minority children in the society and learning Latvian language, common features and different nuances of ethnic rituals in the calendar holidays, as well as public awareness activities on the need for dialogue between cultures.
Contribution to the Partnership: Stronger links with neighboring countries - Russia and Belarus, the identification of common cultural field and project is integrated within advanced technologies in collaboration with NGO "Projekts Videoatmiņa".
Planned results: Target audience is introduced with the different cultural heritage, national holidays and traditions; also it has improved knowledge of Latvian language and the knowledge of Latvian geography, history and culture.
Project results: The need of the project was identified by the lack of awareness for risk group children of the importance of intercultural dialogue in today's multicultural society.
The target groups of the Project were various groups of people: 111 minorities, 13 Latvians. As well as NVO’s representing the above groups of people's rights and interests, including: 50 members, 3 employees, 68 volunteers.
Place of Project implementation was Latgale, Riga, Belarus and Russian Federation.
The following results have been achieved:
•four video short films about intercultural communication and ethnic minorities calendar festive rituals in the participating non-family care institutions,
•one short film about intercultural communication in Belarus
•one short film about intercultural communication in the Russian Federation, which were recorded in 800 DVDs and distributed in out of family care institutions, non-governmental organizations and interested persons;
•A "Calendar 2016" with minority calendar events and festive celebrations, supplemented by involved students drawings;
•information on project activities posted www.saulesberni.org and www.videoatmina.lv websites.
The project has contributed to, as well as affected II areas of support "unified society" outside family care institutions for young people living in welfare gains and supplemented their knowledge about the need for dialogue between cultures and the importance of further unified Latvian society and existence. Therefore, it has encouraged the public welfare and availability of social services to the target group who have become more knowledgeable, tolerant and cognizant providing quality civic participation.
