The project aims to develop a regional non-governmental initiatives, reducing social inequalities, promoting social inclusion, providing of information and preventing from violence families with more children that are exposed to social exclusion risk, are poor or there is only one breadwinner, as well as contributing to solve the problems for young people in risk group, particularly, involvement in the labor market.
The project is implemented mainly in Jekabpils city and surrounding counties with certain activities in Liepaja and Valmiera cities, thereby combining the best practices in working with families at risk of social exclusion from Kurzeme, Vidzeme and Zemgale.
The main activities are the creation of afternoon self-education classes, overnight camps for families, educational off-site practical training for young people, development of methodological materials, events to exchange the experiences of NGOs, project publicity.
Expected results: the creation of new social services in Jēkabpils surrounding region in non-governmental sector, initiating educational activities for non-violent parenting methods and empowering.
Project results: The project’s creation necessity was determined by the social inequality in Vidusdaugava region and non-governmental organisation’s desire to take part in various ways to reduce the risk of exclusion, including – carrying out new initiatives, establishing state and non-governmental organisation cooperative network, taking over the good experience from other regions in Latvia, which also includes exchange of experience with the non-governmental donor country. The project addressed the issue of violence in families by carrying out preventive actions for the reduction of it.
The project’s sustainability will be ensured by the established regional NGO, educators and social workers cooperation network for addressing various social problems and for the creation of new social solutions. Project’s provided example about public and NGO sector’s successful cooperation has become the foundation for the creation of other networks in other social projects. Association „Jēkabpils NVO resursu centrs” is forming solutions, so a part from the provided activities continues. An important long-term gain for the project is the increase of prestige for the association and the non-governmental sector, initialising a modern social work in communities. Project’s activities largely have promoted the development of civil society, because the implementation was largely ensured by the voluntary work from people of different ages. The project’s target audience was also involved in various ways in the creation, planning and evaluation of project’s activities but the works created during the activities often were given away as presents. The main benefits for the target group’s participants were risk reduction of social exclusion by gaining new contacts across Latvia, developing their creative and artistic skills, developing and learning more about your personality, gaining knowledge about ways to reduce the risk of violence.
The project’s results have been met entirely in the provided extent. The carried out activities have decreased the risk of social exclusion for 112 children, 41 young people and 16 families by involving their representatives in the five varieties of the afternoon self-education classes, three practical classes and two family day camps.
Three cooperation partners were involved for the realization of the project: foundation „Center Valdardze” (Valmiera), children and youth association „Liepājas Jaunie Vanagi” (Liepāja), Jēkabpil’s Social Service family support center (Jēkabpils), every one of them appropriate for their professional activities and cooperation experience with the target audience of the project. The ability to cooperate not only with the leading organization of the project but also mutually, was much appreciated.
Foundation „Center Valdardze” participated in the realization of four from seven project activities, a dedicated participation was for the violence prevention topic by providing much content. „Liepājas Jaunie Vanagi” demonstrated their professional experience in organizing camps and giving good cooperation experience for the NGOs of Vidusdaugava’s region, the partnership is evaluated as responsive, establishing long-term contacts, great crisis management. Jēkabpil’s Social Service family support center participated with their professional experience in attracting target groups, organizing activities, project partnership evaluated as positive and responsive, especially in the attraction of municipality resources
Project’s partnership has promoted the achieving of planned project results, creating cooperation links between various Latvia’s regions and overtaking the good experience for the creation of a non-formal cooperation network in Vidusdaugava’s region. A broader and long-term influence is the agreement for another new social sector project creation within the partnership, as well as provision of experience for the public and non-governmental sectors. Every project partner is responsible for the established methodological material for the prevention of violence and municipality partnership opportunities with NGOs to reduce the redistribution of it.
The funding to the project partners has not been transferred.
